Security Is Essential

Firewall security

Did you know that in the year 2011, there were 42,887 incidents in the United States involving data loss or theft, computer intrusions and privacy breaches? For example, in July 2008, a disgruntled San Francisco city administrator locked access to a critical network by resetting administrative passwords to its switches and routers and then refusing to divulge them to officials.
Although businesses are taking more pains to secure the consumer data stored on their networks, over half don’t fully understand the implications of a security breach; It takes over 11 months for a company which has experienced a cyber security breach to rebuild their reputation.

It is crucial that business have an adequate intrusion detection system and intrusion prevention system in place. An enterprise firewall is a necessary part of this intrusion detection system. There are six basic types of firewalls:embedded firewalls, enterprise software based firewalls, enterprise hardware based firewalls, SOHO software firewalls, SOHO hardware firewalls, and specialty firewalls. You will also want antimalware to protect against spyware. Spyware is defined as a type of malware (malicious software) installed on computers; it collects information about users without their knowledge.

You will also want to look at the next gen network security, or a next generation network. A next generation network is a broad term used to describe securing the current trends in telecommunications and architectural evolutions, as well as future developments. Overall, a network security platform using a next generation network is essential. You will want an intrusion detection system to protect your company’s data and that of your consumers. Make sure that you company has next generation network in place.
